InFaith donor Barbara Wheeler established a donor advised fund in honor of her husband, Michael, in 2019. Given Michael's long-time career in aviation, Barbara decided to provide two scholarships for students attending the 2020 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s (ERAU) Flight Exploration Summer Camp.
In light of the cancellation of the summer camp due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked with InFaith’s donor services team and Embry-Riddle staff to shift her support. Provided the option of deferring the scholarships or repurposing the grant, Barbara generously decided to put her grant dollars towards benefiting ERAU’s Eagles Care Student Emergency Assistance Fund, which helps current students offset unexpected expenses during this time of crisis.
“Though my husband, Michael, spent his whole working life in aviation, the ability to help a student in need in whatever educational endeavor he or she is studying at Embry-Riddle, would have made him happy, as it does me,” Barbara says.
Many InFaith donors like Barbara have adjusted their giving plans during the COVID-19 pandemic to support our shared communities. To read more from donors who are acting upon their faith, values and giving goals, visit infaithfound.org/infaith-donors-respond-covid-19.
