WomenLead Scholarship recipient Constance Smith has always looked up to her grandfather – a man who believed in social justice and worked for voters rights. Constance says she hopes to follow in his footsteps by advocating for social justice for the “least, last and lost” as she pursues a Master’s of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.
“I want to work for social justice with particular focus on the brutality experienced by black, brown and LGBTQIA+ people in our society,” Constance says. “I hope to change lives by spreading the word of acceptance and love to those so often marginalized.”
With a degree in Nursing, Constance has combined her passions for both ministry and healthcare serving as a parish nurse to provide home healthcare, healthcare education and case management advocacy for members of her community.
”My faith has taught me that God will always bring people or resources together to help achieve what needs to be done when I’m inspired or my passions are flowing,” Constance says. “These experiences continue to inspire me not to give up, not to be afraid to act or speak and to believe I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
After completing her Master’s degree, she hopes to become a hospice or trauma chaplain within a hospital system, nonprofit organization or independent hospice facility.
“To the donors who made this scholarship possible, thank you is not enough to express my gratitude for this gift,” Constance says. “Your sowing the seed of donation into this scholarship will return yields that will reach far beyond us all. I'm humbled and honored to have been selected and will represent you to the very best of my ability.”
The Chris Andersen WomenLead Scholarship recognizes the need for diverse leadership in ministry, nonprofits and civic organizations and seeks to accelerate the extraordinary leadership of diverse women of faith to lead change by using their talents to educate, advocate and activate.
Through InFaith, donors have the opportunity to create their own scholarship fund, make a grant to InFaith’s Field of Interest Fund in Education from their InFaith donor advised fund or give directly to their church’s InFaith Endowment Fund.
